SCANS: Theo James for ESQUIRE Malaysia & Singapore November 2015 Issue

Theo James has not concluded his all time appearance for Hugo Boss as their new ambassador for their new fragrance The Scent. In this new interview with ESQUIRE Singapore Magazine, Theo talks things down about the meaning of “feminism” towards him, his family, and the all philosophical movement of Socrates about a one to one talk with his fans instead of taking selfies. Read the scans below that have been purchased by me personally and the second edition copies released by TheoDorky, and stay tuned for the video interview coming soon:

GLAMOUR.

Realmente no. Un buen afeitado y un buen after shave. Soy simple en ese sentido.

GLAMOUR: Your next film is London Fields, where you work with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
Theo: Yes, it takes place in London and it’s about a femme fatale (Amber) who seduces three men who are very different from each other, and at the end everything ends very shockingly.

GLAMOUR: And when you do not work, do you live in Los Angeles or London?
Theo: In London. I like to go back and forth to Los Angeles because it’s a great city. California is beautiful, sunny and with lots to do, but for me London is the place where all my friends and family are.

GLAMOUR: Let’s talk about movies. What difference has The Divergent Series made in your career?
Theo: It has changed me a lot and has opened doors that had previously been closed. It has also been a huge time commitment for me because the filming of each movie takes about half a year, plus the worldwide promotion which takes about another month, so in the remaining four or five months I have free I have to make sure to go and work on other different types of projects so I don’t stagnate and be known only for these films.

GLAMOUR: How is a normal day in your life?
Theo: I like riding bikes, diving, boxing, reading (I read a lot) and most important to me are friends and family. I like to travel with them or stayfor dinner at their place when I get to the city or for them to come see me in New York, Los Angeles or Atlanta. And music, I love music! to play and listen to it. Nothing makes me happier when I come home tired after a trip than to sit with headphones on and listen to music until I fall asleep.

GLAMOUR: How and why Hugo Boss?
Theo: As an actor is easy to agree to many things. In this case, Hugo Boss made sense to me because it represents the classic while at the same time the masculine and cool. It also has that air of mystery with which I identify in my private life.

GLAMOUR: For you, how is the man who represents Hugo Boss?
Theo: A man who is comfortable in his masculinity, contemporary but also with a classic sense, seductiveand very sure of himself. Also powerful and strong.

GLAMOUR: You talk a lot about masculinity. What does that quality represent for you?
Theo: It is the ability to not force things. I think the male icons or the people I admire the most are those who have nothing to prove to anyone, but show it innately with their personalities. They do not have to say, “Hey, I’m a tough guy!”.

GLAMOUR: Theo, are you one of those that use perfume to feel better or to seduce?
Theo: To both. I like to wear it when I have to go to an event, to work or just to go out. And I like people to notice that I smell good.

GLAMOUR: The perfume ad for The Scent was directed a big Hollywood Director, Darren Aronofsky. How was the experience of working with him?
Theo: It was great! What I liked was the idea of turning it into something more intimate, using more closed and near-flat face and skin.

GLAMOUR: What is your relationship with fashion?
Theo: Obviously everyone likes to look good but I don’t pretend to be perfect all the time, there are times that I do not care and I think that’s good. If I’m working I like to be presentable and if I’m in a press event or promoting (like as ambassador for Hugo Boss) I like to look good, elegant, and with a suit that suits my style.

GLAMOUR: How do you stay in shape?
Theo: I go to the gym and box. I train hard but it also depends on the project im involved with at the time. Sports have always been part of me since age 16. GLAMOUR: Any beauty rituals? Not really. A good shave and a good aftershave. I am simple in that sense.

Theo James Talks to ‘Esquire’ About Hugo Boss Fragrance

In a new released interview, Theo James talks to Esquire about his new fragrance, The Scent for his ambassador campaign by Hugo Boss.

Hugo Boss recently released a new fragrance “Boss: The Scent,” with the intention of bringing romance offline and back into the real world, where it belongs. Fittingly, actor Theo James of Downton Abbey fame is the face of this new fragrance. We recently had some time to sit down with him to discuss “The Scent” and the state of men’s grooming worldwide.

How does “Boss: The Scent” differ from past Boss fragrance releases?

Well, I don’t know if you’ve seen their marketing stuff, but they found this specific fruit in South Africa, which has a very unique smell. It’s kind of rich and also quite subtle. It’s never been used before. It’s a random little piece of fruit from the wilds of south Africa. So they’ve created a whole new smell, which encompasses a kind of departure for them—going for a little bit of edge, a little bit of darkness in the undertones, if that makes sense.

In this age, with instant gratification and online dating, do you see seduction as a lost art?

It is tricky because big things are changing, as you say. Now we kind of share pictures of ourselves during daily activities on a daily basis. That kind of sense of mystery goes a little bit, then.

Absolutely.

I think I’m more old school as well. I kind of like the idea of keeping a little bit of myself to myself.

Agreed. How would you say a man’s smell affects the way people perceive him?

If he stinks then…

That’s not going to be good. But do you think a great cologne can really attract a partner?

Yes, I do think that. [Women] particularly respond to smell, and they also have a good sense of memory in terms of men. I think it’s very important for a man to wear a good fragrance.

What kind of scents do you like? More incense or more citrus?

I quite like subtle scents. I don’t like overpowering smells.

One spray and walk into it?

Yeah, kind of. [Laughs] Yeah, that kind of thing rather then being overpowered.

Men’s grooming has steadily been rising over the past couple years, and brands like Kiehl’s and Hugo Boss have become irreplaceable in a man’s medicine cabinet. To what do you attribute this?

I think there’s more of a push towards quality. Especially now that there’s a globalization of the market. Now you’re able to purchase whatever you want, so it’s maybe a little bit more [acceptable for] a man to look after himself, too.
