The Divergent Series & The Hunger Games Series Theme Parks

The end for The Hunger Games series franchise films is just around the corner, taking its world wide phenomenon premiere in two weeks with MockingJay Part 2. But Lionsgate is not done promoting this huge franchise, in along partners with our favorite dystopian series, The Divergent Series. The HollyWood Reporter made an official (which we got a confirmation from Lionsgate themselves) stating about a future theme park in recreation for the Hunger Games and Divergent. This park will be held in China and in Atlanta, Georgia making its debut opening in 2018 in Macau, China and its opening in 2019 in Atlanta Georgia. This is highly exciting news to both franchise! The studio’s popular film properties will be licensed for destination attractions to be built by Chinese and American partners.

Lionsgate plans to license its film properties to new theme parks being built around the Hunger Games and Divergent film franchises near Macau and Atlanta, Georgia, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

In one deal, Lionsgate is backing Chinese developer Lia Fung and parent eSun as they build a 22,000 square-meter entertainment center in Hengqin, China, a town near Macau. The Lai Sun theme park will feature interactive fan experiences and attractions from six Lionsgate movie properties, including the Hunger Games, Divergent and Now You See Me franchises.

The Macau attraction is slated to open in late 2018. And a second agreement with U.S. developer Avatron Smart Park will see Lionsgate film properties like the Hunger Games, Now You See Me and Step Up franchises anchor a roughly 100-acre theme park near Atlanta with attractions and rides.

The attraction in Atlanta, where the Hunger Games franchise has filmed its movies, is set to launch in 2019. The New York Times first reported on Lionsgate expanding its theme park plans with new IP licensing deals for movie-based attractions in Macau and Atlanta.

Lionsgate in recent years has eyed theme park attractions and other location-based entertainment opportunities to generate new revenues from its Hunger Games, Divergent and other movie franchises. The studio made earlier announcements for an exhibit, The Hunger Games: The Exhibition, now touring museums and other institutions in the U.S., a StageAround live theater production to launch in the U.K. next year and the Motiongate theme park to debut in Dubai next year.

Updated Nov. 2, 13:50 p.m. New information provided to indicate Lionsgate is licensing its IP for new theme parks in Macau and Atlanta, and not building the attractions as previously noted.

‘Allegiant’ Films Get A Name Change + Veronica’s Reaction Toward the Change

MTV has released a statement stating the final negotiation (that we got an assumption from a reliable source) of the name change for The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 1 and Allegiant Part2. Allegiant will still be named The Divergent Series: Allegiant but without the “part 1” hitting theaters on March 18, 2016. As of part 2, the film will be hitting theaters in 2017 by the name The Divergent Series: Ascendant. Read the final EXCLUSIVE statement/article from MTV down below:

Just like the factions split — and then came back together — at the end of “The Divergent Series: Insurgent,” so have the upcoming two final movies in the series. They were previously called “The Divergent Series: Allegiant — Part 1,” and “The Divergent Series: Allegiant — Part 2,” but now MTV News can exclusively reveal the final two movies in the series will have brand new names once they hit theaters.

When we last left Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James), the truth of their world had been revealed to them: they’re part of an experiment to heal the post-apocalyptic Earth they live in, and could have left the wall that surrounds the ruins of Chicago at any time.

Only with the emergence of Divergents — people like Tris, who possess multiple distinct personality qualities — could the truth be revealed. And that’s exactly where the renamed “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” (notice the lack of “Part 1″) picks up on March 18, 2016; as Tris and Four head over the wall to discover what remains of the rest of the world.

Then the next year on March 24, 2017, the whole series comes to an explosive close with “The Divergent Series: Ascendant.” Both movies will be based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling novel “Allegiant,” but will also expand on the story in ways we can only guess at (though we’re going to guess that Tris does several badass things, and Four doesn’t quite get along with his parents — mild spoilers).

Hey, as long as there’s plenty of FourTris action — and plenty of Peter (Miles Teller) being snarky — we’re there.

The tagline for “Ascendant” is particularly interesting — “The End Is Never What You Expect” — given, as fans of the books know, things don’t end up too well for one of our main characters. So will things change by the time we see the finale on screen? Or is this teasing that non-readers are going to be surprised by the shocking ending?

We also got new exclusive posters representing the logos of the upcoming films:

But this is not all, our creator of this marvelous series also commented and made a statement on her opinion on the name change as she posted her reaction on her Tumblr.

What do you Initiates think of the name change? I personally don’t have a problem with it because there honestly was not an Allegiant Part 1 or Part 2 in the book series. But yet again… There was no Ascendant either. As long as the script writers and producers stayed true to the book and to the story, I don’t see how it could jeopardize the film series.
